Money Wise Belles, the Financial Literacy Program at Bennett College

With support from UNCF/Merrill Lynch Financial Literacy Program, The Money Wise Belles program began in 2009. The program is model after the Money Wise Women program at Scripps College with similar goals and mission.

The mission of Money Wise Belles: To provide Belles with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about her finances, enabling her to achieve her lifetime personal, professional and community goals.

The goals of the program are:

  1. To make it possible for every Belle, during her undergraduate years to gain the fundamental skills of personal financial management.
  2. To increase Belles' financial literacy in order to increase confidence in making financial decisions.
  3. To instill in Belles the determination and motivation to achieve lifetime financial independence.
  4. To promote financial awareness and education among alumnae and in the process to encourage interaction among undergraduates and alumnae.

The program hosts workshops on budget and credit management, auto and home buying, and hosts First Friday Lunch, which is focused on having alums come in and speak to students.
